I’m sure some of you have heard our engagement story but I thought I would go ahead and blog about it also because some of you have asked!!!
Jonathan and I went out to Colorado to visit my sister, brother in law, and my niece for like 11 days! It was an amazing vacation that we both needed! While we were out there we hiked up the Manitou incline, did some shopping and exploring, ate at some yummy places, went to the zoo, met some new friends, went snowboarding, and GOT ENGAGED! 😉
Jonathan was in charge of making our New Years plans, so I had no clue what to expect! First, we had a yummy dinner at this sweet little restaurant up in the mountains of Colorado called the Craftwood Inn…
It was a fantastic little 5 course meal with my love. We enjoyed dinner and each other’s company by the fireplace and shared lots of laughs. Jonathan kept mentioning to me that his stomach was hurting all throughout dinner, so I finally ended up saying we should just go home after we finished since he didn’t feel so good. He then told me that we had plans after to go watch fireworks so we were not going home!
After we left dinner it was still a little early so Jonathan insisted we go get some medicine for his stomach somewhere. Little did I know, he was just killing time. So, we drove until we found somewhere that was open and went in to get him some medicine. After that, we were off to watch fireworks! Jonathan had put the address into his phone so it was leading us to our destination. I finally asked him where we were going and he answered with, “wherever Siri takes us.” Haha!! Well I just kept going with the flow until we pulled up to what looked like a little airport. I was so confused!! Haha! we parked and got out of he car and went inside.
When we went inside a pilot came up to us and said, “Hello Jonathan and Brittney.” I was so caught off guard and then he asked me if I knew what we were going to do tonight. I had no idea what Jonathan had up his sleeve!! Our pilot went on to tell me that we were going to be taking a helicopter ride at midnight to watch fireworks that were going to be shot off at the top of Pikes Peak! He then told us the story behind the fireworks. Apparently each year a group of people hike up to the top of Pikes Peak to shoot off fireworks. This group is called the “add a man club” each year they add a man to the group and hike up to the top! Super cool!! They have done this every year since 1922 except for 2 years because of weather issues. Also, another cool fact is that only ONE couple a year can take a helicopter ride at this time to watch the fireworks!! Guess who that lucky couple was this year?! 😉 hehe
So, about a quarter til midnight we went outside to the helicopter to get ready to go! When the pilot opened the door to let me in, there was a little surprise sitting in my seat…

We then got in the helicopter and got ready to fly! We all had to wear head sets so that we could hear each other talking because it was so loud…
Jonathan and I were both SO excited!!! We went up, up up and the city was absolutely gorgeous!!! All of the lights were sparkling and it was absolutely magical. It reminded me of a light bright! Lol! The fireworks were awesome also and I was just completely blown away that he had pulled this off! Our pilot then told us that he was going to go “offline” for a bit. I was just thinking I don’t know why he would do that but okay whatever. I was too busy being in heaven! THEN, I heard Jonathan say, “babe.” He started fumbling and was talking about how much he loved me and wanted to marry me and then he finally asked, “Will you be my wife?” While he was saying that he pulled out the diamond!!!
I was so shocked and caught off guard that I didn’t even say anything, he put the ring on my finger and I just stared at it in all of its amazingness! Haha and he finally said, “Well….?” Hahaha! I was so in awe I hadn’t even answered! I then broke down and started crying and said “YES!” It was absolutely MAGICAL and the most perfect night ever!!! I always knew that his proposal would be amazing but I never knew it would be this amazing! He then told me a little later, “now you see why my stomach was upset?” Hahaha!
When we landed, our pilot asked us how we liked the ride and I just put my hand up with my diamond on it and he said, “good! That’s what I like to see!” We got out and got ready to leave and Jonathan said I was allowed to only call my parents and his parents! I was SO excited! So when we got back to my sister and brother in laws house, I called my mom and she was SO happy for us and of course she knew and said she had been waking up every hour and looking at her phone! Jonathan’s parents were thrilled also! I did not sleep a wink that night because I was just SO excited!
Also, when I got home he had waiting for me a new gold necklace with my new monogram and a cupcake of course! 😉 THEN he told me that he had ANOTHER surprise for me. He went on to remind me that awhile back I had talked about when we came out to Colorado we should hang out with my friend Alysson who I had went to college with. I had told Jonathan that she and her husband were stationed out there and that she was a photographer and super sweet and pretty! Well, apparently he got her info from my sis and set up an engagement photoshoot with her while we were out in Colorado!!! I mean, is he perfect or is he perfect? Haha! So, we set up a day and time for Alysson to take our pictures and she took us up on top of a mountain where you can actually see Pikes Peak which is where we were when we got engaged! I left this picture for last because it really shows the detail of my ring. Jonathan spent months designing my ring, he went back and forth with several different designs with how to make my ring truly special. He had one of the diamonds in the band replaced with his birthstone (ruby). In this picture you can see it…
I could go on forever about how special I feel! Jonathan is truly a god send! He’s my angel. That night and every night for that matter, I feel like I’m on cloud nine. He makes me feel special and loved every single second and I absolutely ADORE his whole heart. I couldn’t imagine doing life with anyone else.
After an agonizing break up after college I was done with boyfriends for about two years. I had decided to focus on myself, my career, my family and friends, and most importantly The Lord. I had come to the conclusion that I was just done with dating I would rather spend 50 single years than 50 years with the wrong person. I was content with just being by myself. Then along came one of His sons and completely swept me off my feet! Listen to me when I say your time WILL come if you just wait for the right person. I’m not going to lie and say waiting was easy. I had to watch everyone else around me getting engaged, getting married, having babies, etc but I was so FULL with Christ that I did not long for anything more. He was so satisfying and I was just so full with Him. It will happen when you least expect it. Pour your life into getting to know The Lord so you can know how to recognize one of His sons when the right one comes along! So trust and lean into Jesus, there’s no love like His love.
