enjoying THIS season.
“Take your everyday, ordinary life- your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life- and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for Him.”
Romans 12:1 MSG
Since being a full time stay at home mom and wife, I sometimes feel like I should be doing more. I feel like I’m just not doing enough. I then have to step back and remember that this is the season I am in for now. The Lord has called me to do these things and I should be doing them for His glory with all my heart. The Lord has given me the opportunity to stay at home so I should embrace it. In the diaper changes, laundry, cleaning, organizing, meal prep, interacting with my son, grocery shopping, etc. I am doing all of these things that I have been called to do. I should do them 100% because THIS is my full-time job. The perfectionist in me wants to be the best. I want to do more, be more, and attain more. But, in all these things I can’t be a superhero, but I do however belong to a super God who enables me to be the best possible version of myself!
One way I make our home run smoother is by making schedules, plans, and lists. I plan out our meals weekly. I try to do this because it helps us not to eat out as much, and it keeps me from not texting my husband in the middle of the day and asking him to pick up something for dinner. It also makes me feel way more accomplished. I will also try to plan out our day. Everyday I try to clean and tidy certain areas of our home, you could do a calendar or list that has for example: Monday: bathrooms, Tuesday: kitchen, etc. Some days, Theo and I will do crafts and make things for people. Everyday I try to keep him on a certain feed/sleep schedule so that he will take scheduled naps and get used to a routine. The schedule he is on now I found from Moms on Call, but I adjusted it to my baby and what works best for our family. Some days we go for walks in the park or around our neighborhood. I have found a baby story time at our local Library that I am going to start taking Theo to as well. As he gets older we will do more interactive, fun activities. I make to-do lists all the time. This makes me feel accomplished and like I have actually gotten things done. Some days I feel accomplished by just changing out of my PJ’s, so making a list and being able to cross certain things off makes a world of difference.
One thing that I am SO thankful for is the First 5 App. It is challenging sometimes to spend quality time with the Lord, so this app enables me to spend the first 5 minutes of my day reading a devotion. I also will read the verse of the day on my Bible app as well. Typically I do this during Theo’s first morning feeding which is anywhere between 5-6 AM. Then later, I try to pull out my Bible and read in that also.
I love being able to stay home and raise our son. But, there are times I do miss the “me-time.” I am learning and being molded into the mom and wife that God has called me to be, but I will never reach the point of perfection until I meet Christ face-to-face. I am learning to embrace the messiness which is hard for me because I am such a neat- freak. I am learning to be still and just hold my son without going over the 100 things I could be doing instead. I am aiming to be the best possible version of myself through the help of Christ, but many times I have to stop myself from overdoing it. By simply serving my son and my husband I have learned that I am also serving Christ. He has called me for such a time as this to be Jonathan’s wife and Theodore’s momma so that is what I am doing. I am taking this everyday, ordinary life and making it the best I can. Rather it be singing to my son, or cooking my husband dinner while wearing my son, or folding clothes, or packing my husband’s lunch, I’m doing my job, the job I have been called to do, and I am doing it (most of the time) with a joyful heart. This New Year I resolve to be the best mom and wife I can be through the help of my Lord and Savior. I resolve to embrace this life and this NEW season wholeheartedly!
