Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas
I absolutely adore decorating our home, especially for Christmas. There’s just something so magical about this holiday season. I crave the smell of cinnamon and nutmeg, the taste of peppermint hot cocoa, cozy blankets, and twinkle lights. This year I put up two trees, one in the living room, and one in the front room. In the living room, I stuck with classic buffalo plaid, what can I say, I’m mad about plaid! In the front room I went with lots of dreamy creams, whites, and gold tones. I love how each room in our home turned out. Although there aren’t pictures of every single, little area I decorated, there are little touches of Christmas throughout the entire house, which I love.
I love this adorable sign we got from Pine and Birch. I think it makes a fantastic little centerpiece and really pulls everything together. The calligraphy is to die for! Laney, the shop owner has a ton of cute items in her Etsy shop, so be sure to check it out!
I found the cutest wooden nativity scene from Hobby Lobby this year. I absolutely love it, and apparently Theo does as well. I have caught him several times moving the wise men around and pointing to baby Jesus and saying, “baby.” It makes a great teaching opportunity. We actually went and saw the movie, “The Star” today and it was so good. Theo did really well and at lunch afterwards we were talking with him about the movie, and I asked him what he liked about it and he responded, “Jesus!” I mean come on, melt my heart why don’t ya!
If you know me at all, you know how crazy I am about essential oils. Since I ditched toxic candles and plug ins, I love using my 100% natural essential oils to scent my home. The best part is knowing that I’m using straight up plants to make my home smell like Christmas, and it’s about so much more than just smelling good too. Some of my favorite blends to diffuse right now include: “Twinkle Lights” – Peppermint and Thieves, “Hot Cider” – Orange, Nutmeg, and Cinnamon Bark, “Christmas Cookies” – Lemon, Bergamot, Cinnamon, Clove, Nutmeg, and “Balsam Branches” – Idaho Balsam Fir, Clove, and Cinnamon Bark. My whole house smells delicious and everyone that comes over always compliments about how good it smells.
I still swoon over the little half bath downstairs that my father-in-love and husband did. It’s literal shiplap perfection. Dad and Jon are so talented and patient; they knocked this little project out super quick. I also have a yummy sugar hand scrub and room spray that I made up with my oils too…OILS FOR EVERYTHING duh.
I found the cutest little dessert plates in the target dollar section. Target is always rocking all the best holiday decor, I mean now that they have the new Hearth and Hand line, I can’t even deal.
I love how elegant my front room is. This is where my office is also, so I love working in this dainty little space. It’s also nice to have my quiet time in this cozy little room too. I love to curl up with a fuzzy blanket, my Bible, and hot coffee and admire my tree in the morning.
I still love all my ornaments, especially the DIY ones. I made the “Theo” ornament with his baby bracelets and crib cards from the hospital. It’s so fun to pull out all the ornaments every year and reminisce. We’ve also started getting a family ornament every year. Each year, since Theo has been born, we order an ornament with special photos from that year. It’s fun to make memories and traditions as a family of three. I recently blogged about some of our holiday traditions, you can read more about that here.
I hope that you guys have a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year! I hope that you eat lots of yummy treats, drink lots of delicious hot cocoa…or wine, and enjoy your time with your family and loved ones. Cheers!
