Wellness Support
Tis’ the season for all the sickness. AHHH! I am so thankful I have a whole arsenal to support our bodies from all the crud. I strongly believe in the power of prayer, essential oils, and breast milk y’all. So many people are out there sneezing and coughing and I’m over here just being the sickness slayer with oils in one hand and elderberry syrup in the other! Today I wanted to share a couple tips about how we are staying well over here in the Graham house…
1. OILS. Essential oils are made from pure plants. They are the super concentrated, aromatic essences of trees, shrubs, herbs, grasses, resins and flowers. They are basically the immune system of the plant and act the same way in our bodies. They are very potent and powerful when you use the right oils, the right ways. When you diffuse pure, therapeutic grade essential oils, you aren’t filling the air in your home with artificial fragrance, you are filling it with 100% pure plant matter. But, let’s get one thing straight, not all oils are created equal. I chose Young Living essential oils for several different reasons. One of which is that they own their own farms all over the world. They have 25+ years of experience and research along with a very rigorous testing process. Young Living is the only company that has the “Seed to Seal” standard, which is so important. Young Living is also the only company that has an entire line of essential oils specifically labeled for internal usage. I love making an “Immune Bomb” when I’m feeling a little under the weather. Simply get a clear veggie capsule and add 4 drops Thieves Vitality, 3 drops Oregano Vitality, 2 drops Frankincense Vitality, 2 drops Lemon Vitality, and fill the rest with fractionated coconut oil. All of these essential oils are immune boosting power houses! I also love making a wellness tea to sip on. It warms me up, soothes my throat, and boosts immunity. I add one drop Thieves Vitality, one drop Lemon Vitality, one drop Copaiba Vitality, a spoonful of honey, a splash of apple cider vinegar, and then add hot water to a mug. Stir and sip, easy peasy! I also love to diffuse to help us breathe easy, rest, and relax when we need it most. We also roll our “Wellness” rollers all over our feet and up our spines.
2. ELDERBERRY. Elderberry syrup has so many health benefits! A couple of them include: major cold and flu relief, sinus infection support, encourages healthy skin, natural laxative, eases allergies, and helps fight cancer. Elderberry is super high in Vitamin C, flavonoids, and virus fighting proteins. These all work together to give your immune system a boost. You can make your own elderberry syrup or you could just buy it if that’s more convenient too. I do plan on making my own in the near future. I purchased this brand from Whole Foods, but you can also purchase it here from Amazon. Theo loves taking his daily elderberry as you can see below!
3. BREAST MILK. I kept some breast milk frozen for a “rainy day” after I weaned Theo. Breast milk is seriously heaven sent you guys. I’m so thankful I was able to nurse Theo for 18 solid months. Breast milk contains so many good antibodies to help boost immunity and fight crud. I did a blog post a while back about this “super” milk, you can read it here. So, I still make Theo smoothies with my frozen breast milk. I combine lots of fresh fruits and veggies, Acai, NingXia Red, and he thinks it’s the best thing ever!
4. DETOX BATHS + REST. I love a good, hot detox bath you guys, especially when I’m feeling a little under the weather. Some benefits of detox baths include: flushes toxins, reduces stress, relieves sore muscles, improves sleep, and more. I simply fill the tub with hot water, add a cup or two of epsom salt with essential oils like Thieves, Purification, Eucalyptus, or Lavender, 1 cup of baking soda (makes your skin soft and known for its cleansing abilities), one tablespoon of ginger (raises your body temperature), half a cup of apple cider vinegar (helps your body become more alkaline), and soak for 20-40 minutes. Be sure to stand up slowly and carefully, rinse off in a cool shower, and drink plenty of water after your detox bath.
5. NINGXIA + SUPPLEMENTS. NingXia Red is a super drink made from goji berries that supports overall wellness from head to toe. It provides energy support, supports normal eye health, helps prevent against oxidative stress, fights free radicals, supports normal cellular health, and supports whole-body health. We love taking an ounce of NingXia in the morning and again at lunch time. They also have convenient to-go packets that I love to freeze and have as a little slushie treat. Theo is also a big fan of NingXia; we’ve been putting it in his smoothies and I really want to try and make some NingXia gummies for him soon.
This is just a couple of things we do to keep us well, happy, and healthy. We love learning and educating ourselves on wellness and how to stay healthy with natural remedies that God has given us.
