Fiesta Like There’s No Mañana
THEO IS UNO! Theo’s first fiesta was an absolute blast! We had our family over to celebrate with us Saturday, October 15th and everything went absolutely amazing. We had been planning this party for about 6 months, so we went a little fiesta crazy, but we had so much fun working on everything! We did a lot of the decorations ourselves. We saw a lot of ideas we liked on Pinterest and re-created them with our own style and a little added flare.
Theo’s invitations were from Bonne Soirée Events & Design. Alejandra was so helpful and quick to respond! She gave us our proof very quickly, and we were SO pleased! These invitations were absolutely PERFECT for Theo’s big day! We got plain white envelopes; Jonathan painted the green cacti on them and did his amazing calligraphy! We sealed them up with some cute washi tape.
We had lots of delicious food! Some of the spread consisted of: Spicy Roasted Carrot Hummus, Roasted Beet Hummus, Tortilla Chips, Lavash, Sliced Vegetables, Mango Salsa, Medium Salsa, and Guac!
Let’s not forget about the sweets! Some of the desserts included: Crockpot Chunky Monkey Paleo Trail Mix, Fudge Top Brownies, and Paleo Pumpkin Coffee Cake.
Jonathan created this amazing hanging macramé! I am so in love with how it turned out. We went back and forth about what we should hang it on, and we eventually decided a branch would give it a more rustic, natural look! It’s absolutely incredible!
We ordered 2 dozen mini cupcakes from SweetCakes Bakery. The flavors included: Pumpkin Spice, Salted Caramel, Cookies & Cream, and Peanut Butter Truffle. They were absolutely divine! We also ordered 3 large cupcakes as well. These cactus cupcakes were Maple Bacon, Carrot Cake, and White Chocolate Raspberry. The cupcakes were a huge hit, and everyone loved them! My mother in love made the succulent and cactus cupcake picks. They turned out so cute and added the perfect finishing touch!
My mother in love also made Theo’s smash cake. It was gluten, sugar, and dairy free and tasted really good! She used the recipe from here. But, she also added 1/4 cup of coconut flour and 1 tsp vanilla. She baked two 6-inch cakes to make a layer cake. A little trick she used was lining the bottom of the pans with only parchment paper so that the cakes would come out easier. For the frosting, she whipped one whole can of refrigerated coconut cream, maple syrup, and cocoa powder until the desired consistency and taste was achieved. Another baker’s tip, place the beaters in the freezer the morning of when you would make this frosting. This helps the coconut cream stay cool while beating. This paleo cake turned out phenomenal, and Theo was a big fan!
My husband was such a huge help! He really helped me a ton in bringing all of my ideas together. We made a great team through the whole planning and executing process. We worked diligently each night, ensuring that every single detail was perfect. We had lots of help from Grandmommie and Nonnie too! Jonathan did Theo’s birthday chalkboard design! I was totally in love with how it turned out!
How cute is this cactus bunting?! Jonathan cut these out with an exacto knife and then we strung it with fishing line. It was perfect for Theo’s highchair!
The cactus piñata was made out of a diaper box and cardboard. Jonathan constructed it, and I helped with cutting tissue paper and attaching it piece by piece. Again, lots of tedious work, but the finished product was totally worth it!
I loved our backyard for Theo’s party! It looked so festive and fun! We actually left the colorful bunting up for about a week after his party too. Jonathan hand cut each piece of bunting. It reminded me of how you cut a paper snowflake! Then we just strung them up with twine and attached it to the string lights in our backyard. The potted cacti were made from cardboard and then assembled and painted by my fabulous, handy husband. We potted them and filled up the pots with sand and rock.
Theo had a lot of fun opening all his gifts! I think his favorite thing was playing with the tissue paper. The cactus wrapping paper that you see, Jonathan actually came up with. We have a big roll of white craft paper. So, we just wrapped Theo’s gifts, and Jonathan sketched the cactus prints on!
We got Theo’s shirt from Beach Town Baby on Etsy. He looked so cute and festive for his party! His neon moccasins are from SweetNSwag.
We saved Theo’s cake until the very end; we figured he’d have to go right up after cake and get a bath! It looks like he’s going to be a chocoholic like his daddy!
For party favors, we gave potted succulents and indoor air purifying plants! We figured they’d get more use, plus they were cute and everyone loved them!
Theo’s first fiesta was a huge success! Everything went smooth and everyone seemed to have a really good time! The birthday boy was exhausted after all was said and done! He partied hard! I am so thankful for the sweet family the Lord has blessed me with! Theodore is the biggest blessing in our lives, and celebrating with our family was so much fun! Thanks to everyone who took the time to wish Theo a happy birthday!
