Homemade Soap with Essential Oils
I absolutely love homemade gifts. I think they are the sweetest and just so thoughtful! Ever since I began using Young Living essential oils, I’ve been trying to make my home a little more “green.” I’ve been slowly but surely wiping out toxins and products that contain hormone disrupters and crazy things that I cannot even pronounce. Did you know that the term “fragrance” can include up to 300 toxic chemicals and still just say “fragrance.” This includes “fragrance” in personal care products like lotion and toothpaste. It’s so important that we understand what we put in and on our bodies. I recently had a get together with a few friends and family where we talked about essential oils and then made some fun DIY products. One of which, was organic goats milk soap infused with essential oils.
Ingredients:
1 lb. Organic Goats Milk Soap Base – I purchased it here.
3 TBSP Raw Honey
15 Drops Sacred Mountain Essential Oil
15 Drops Release Essential Oil
Soap Mold – I purchased mine here.
Dried Rose petals, Lavender, Herbs, etc. – I purchased mine here.
Directions:
Cut soap base into cubes. Place in a double boiler on stove top and melt while stirring occasionally. After soap base has melted, stir in honey and essential oils. Pour mixture into mold and allow to sit until firm.
This recipe is very simple and the soap turned out beautifully, as you can see in the picture above. I added some dried Lavender to the soap, I thought it gave it a nice touch. I chose Sacred Mountain and Release essential oils to add to this soap recipe because, first of all they smell amazing, but they are also very grounding, calming, and relaxing. “Sacred Mountain is a blend of Ylang Ylang and conifer oils that evokes the sense of sanctity found in nature and promotes feelings of strength, empowerment, grounding, and protection when diffused. Release is a blend with a relaxing aroma that facilitates the ability to let go of anger and frustration. It also promotes harmony and balance when diffused.” I love how the smell of this soap turned out! Some other ideas I thought of…
Lemon + Rosemary with dried Rosemary
Lavender + Joy with dried Rose petals
Roman Chamomile + Lavender with dried Chamomile flowers
